We jumped the gun on this one the other day, but it’s finally official, so break out the noise makers, throw up the confetti, and let the parties begin. Apple iTunes has reached its ten billion song download milestone today. For those that are counting, that is an astounding ten billion songs downloaded in a mere seven years of operation; nine billion of which have been downloaded since February 23, 2006, the date iTunes reached its one billionth song milestone and almost four years ago to the date. With Apple rumored to be moving iTunes to the cloud using the talent and technology it acquired in its recent Lala purchase, we can most likely assume this number to continue to climb at its astounding rate and in less than five years from now, we may be celebrating the 20th billion download.

    YES APPLE RULES!!!

The amount pointless posts about Apple on BGR is soon to hit that number too.. Who cares.

    • MikeD

And you entered this thread why?

Do yourself a favor and ignore the Apple Articles… Oh I forgot, theres a trojan horse going around that forces BGR readers to have to click in on articles regarding Apple.

Seriously, people let it go. End the trolling, sheesh.

  • MikeD

So uh, who said iTunes would fail?

    • Tdot34

No one, but compared to the amount of music downloaded illegally…. its probably 10 times what iTunes sells.

      • Nicholas V

lmao, did u figure that out all on your own?

  • Marco

    iCare not.

I like Apple, but I sure hate to give them too much power with digital books and music. Nobody seems close to match Itunes even with all the trashing I see here. Illegal downloads such as Limewire does not count to me, sorry.

    • gabelite

Yes…because being able to sell books and music is TOO much power. Watch out because next they’ll start offering digital magazine subscriptions…that’s when their global takeover will start.

Time to celebrate – billions of dollars straight to steve jobs’ pocket

    • MikeD

You do realize that Apple doesn’t make much money at all on the music sales, right? The lion-share goes to the label, and then a smidgen to the artist.

So keep on hating on Steve Jobs. The music labels thank you for your ignorance.

    • jonathan

Even with all that money, he still can’t take with him if his already ailing health ultimately fails him. The man looks all skin and bones to me.

  • that dude

Fuck downloading bad quality music and viruses from limewire and such, go itunes, just lower your prices

  • Josh

Wow only noobs download from iTunes or Limewire. It’s called torrents people; exceptional quality and I’m not forced to be able to only play it on 1 device, such as iTunes downloads.
THE thing is that most people are too stupid to realize how easy it is to PIRATE music/movies/software/etc. while keeping the big brother at BAY.

    • neXus

haha and best of all Josh forgot to mention that it’s free! but i’m assuming that is implied ;)

    • otter

and you feel good stealing do you?

      • EcoRII

The funny thing is, the popularity of the less popular music, movies, and software is increased by it being pirated, because some people actually get legal copies of the stuff later if they like it…

… Heard that on the internet…

  • lzarEus

oh smack, I’m so impressed with Josh Da Pirate… what a fruit

TOO bad the music isn’t Drm free

Actually, it is DRM free. That is why the prices of most songs are now $1.29. Apple wanted no DRM and the labels wanted higher prices. Funny, you have your Android phone overclocked (so you must follow tech) yet you didn’t know that iTunes music has been DRM free for over a year.

      Cheers.

For people that actually choose to pay for content instead of stealing it, thank you. Regardless of how you justify stealing media, someone worked hard to create it.

    Cheers,

PS, I really don’t care where media is purchased, just as long as it is purchased.

  • Steel Fajitas

I agree with paying for music, but $1.29 a song its a bit much especially since their is no physical media on top of the music not being of loss less quality. In the end, we, the consumers, get duped.
