And just like that, every major Canadian wireless carrier offers at least one Android smartphone as Bell has launched the Samsung Galaxy. Currently going for $99.95 on a 3-year contract and $449.95 without, the Galaxy might prove to be a bit of a tough sell for Bell considering all three of Android handsets offered by Rogers — the HTC Dream, Magic and LG Eve — are $79.99 and under while TELUS has the ever popular HTC Hero at $99.99 with the Motorola MILESTONE all set for an early 2010 debut. Having said all of that, the Galaxy does appear to have a trump card — order now and you’ll get a free Vancouver 2010 decal. We can just hear the flood of calls to telesales now.

I dunno about this.. I personally think the Galaxy is a more sexy phone then the Hero (and yes, that includes the Sprint version which is SEXY AS HELL).

The curves are right, but just boxy enough to look like a solid device, and the keys are not a wonky mix of touch and mini buttons. Just a nice look, and thin… America needs more thin, is all Im saying.

Welcome to the family Roger. I am probably going to just buy a house boat and live at the base of Niagara Falls. Hope my Galaxy doesn’t get wet…or especially my decal.

Yeah probably the best looking Android phone. Still a long way from iPhone-sexy though, especially the buttons.

3 year contract? … r u kidding me? why don’t these carriers just ax for rights to our first born? … i noes, don’t be givin’ them any ideas.

Doesn’t the Galaxy have 8GB of internal memory? If so then it would make it so much better than the other Android devices that have extremely limited memory for installing apps

I only problem I have with this phone is that it still has the same Ram that the g1 and mt3g have… 128 (192). I think the g1 should’ve been marketed as running with 128, because that is how much is on the chip the os and apps actually run on. It seems there are 3 sections to g1 ram – 128, 64, 32 – the latter two used for hardware (camera, radio, etc) drivers.

    So, ram in g1 = 128

    192 was a marketing trick.

I think galaxy is being honest in saying it has 128mb of RAM, but I think it will also hurt it because it looks like it has less than the g1, which is not true.

The same is true with the phones that have 288mb. 192 + 63 + 32 = 288. The phone actually has 192mb of RAM for the actual os and app to run on (much better than the g1). And the phones that have 256 seem like they are simply leaving out the last 32mb portion. They have 192 + 64 = 256. Same thing.

This how it makes sense to me. If any of this is wrong, please correct me – I’d love to know.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy this phone!

Not only is it buggy as hell it will never be upgraded to the new versions of Android as Samsung have dropped support for the phone in favour of their newer releases coming soon. Thousands of people are unhappy with this phone and for it to be resold to others is a crime. Unless you’re happy with WiFi crashing your phone, broken bluetooth and the high likelihood of your phone either crashing or failing to work altogether due to loose connections you’ll steer clear of this phone and anything else Samsung releases.
