Microsoft to release Internet Explorer 8 today

Software

Microsoft announced the availability of Internet Explorer 8 today and the preliminary reactions around the net have been pretty good. While betas and RC versions have been floating around for quite a while, the final version of IE8 will be available for your download at Noon EST. With its promised security enhancements, color-coded tabbed browsing and the incorporation of add-on accelerators, IE8 may be worth a try for those who have not already sampled the beta or RC1 versions. Let’s hope Microsoft’s servers can stand up to the demand this time.

I think the compatability setting should be set in compatability mode by default until all sites become compatable. IMHO.

Oh! brother. If everyone had a little patience. Now that IE 8 is finally out, I think it’s really good. But even during my Beta testing period I knew about the “2 iexplore.exe – syndrome” as we used to call it. IE just opens another instance to prevent TAB-CRASHING. It does get in the way when installing software that need you to close all browsers. So if you do not need this facility, all one has to do is: TOOLS – INTERNET OPTIONS – ADVANCED (tab) – and de-select “reuse windows for launching shortcuts”, under the BROWSING sub-heading. Voila!! And to read All the stupid crap flying about the Net : about this being a virus, and the ELABORATE RITUALS needed to get rid of it. Oh!Brorher……I was in splits, Ha,Ha,Ha.

Unfortunately, this fix above with TOOLS – INTERNET OPTIONS – ADVANCED (tab) – and de-select “reuse windows for launching shortcuts”, had no effect for IE 8 on XP. still spawns 2 processes.

Oi-Oi….who’s the man?..You’re the man!! Good that you tried it. The point is IE will most definetly spawn. That’s what was mentioned in the README of IE* release. (people should read more, instead of simply whining). The object of my explain was to help you install software without the hassle of searching for PHANTOM ‘open’ browsers, Savvy?
#2. the memory footprint of an average no of open tabs in IE-8, in TASK MANAGER ‘processes’, is ABSOLUTELY lesser than THAT OF FIREFOX. Install both browsers and see for yourself.
#3. AS Churchill once said…only the great get critisised…and they turn out better for all that critisism. Firefox is equally good….but please don’t anyone bullshit me, that it’s immune from the ‘attacks’ that haunt Iexplorer.
#4. Finally, this is 2009 , people….memory ain’t what it used to be; so if you can’t get enough – maybe you shouldn’t be anywhere near a computer, for crying out loud !!! And last, but not least, as the old saying goes, “if you don’t like it, just lump it”. that goes for browsers too. Amen

Hey Scott, I saw the same situation but I have tabs turned off. I have noticed a few freeze-ups for just a few seconds at times and I think it is because of the two IE Explorers running. I will figure it out or go back to IE7. Firefox is too slow compared to IE and is mainly for Penguin users that don’t care about speed.

  • Firefox sucks

I don’t have tabs turned on and have messsed with everything in the registry and still 2 IE 8′s.
