HTC G1 Price Confirmed: $200 with Contract

Rumor

According to rumors floating through cyberspace this afternoon, the new HTC handset that will feature Android is going to run $200 with a new contract. Whether that accounts for any rebates is still unknown, as is the cost out-of-contract. At that price, the phone is practically a steal. With Google’s new Android platform, a sweet touch-slider device from HTC and T-Mobile’s continuous roll out of 3G, what else is left to be desired? We know a lot of you have been sitting on the edge of your seat for this phone – does the rumor of the price make you much more anxious? Would anyone drop their current device or carrier for this? Chime in and tell us what you think!

T – 3.2 megapixel camera, is that really important? its still not good.
Also, you go with Tmo and get 1/4 the 3G coverage, plus the phone still looks like dookie.

Then don’t get the phone. Simple. For those of us with T-Mo, and especially in one of the rapidly multiplying 3G markets, this device is vindication! While I admit the OS is brand spanking new, I have every faith in Google to bring a stable, powerful OS to market. The one person I’ve met who has actually seen it (a customer who works for a company whose name I can’t remember to save my life but has the enviable job of testing and playing with new software) said it is one very impressive platform. And seriously, why do people think this is ugly? The keyboard is a little different, but when closed it looks great!

Looks great to me! in blk anyway! if all is well I’ll give up my curve in a heartbeat! I love it, but TMO just doesn’t take us Blackberry fans seriously! instead of the Bold or Storm, we get a weak azz flip phone!!!! If the G1 isn’t a dream to use,its goodbye TMO! and thats hard cuz the hotspot@home is the greatest!

Dude tmo is letting me tether at 3g speeds with my sony ericsson set… 20 dollar total internet add on…no data cap and fast as helll so I hope no1 jumps on this more bandwidth for me

I would by it later (not with a contract, but on eBay there will be surely one or two) if the price will not be as high as for an iPhone. Android is reason enough. Design of the phone is … a little boring … but ok.

    LOL!

For you to be backing Sprint with their no-longer-owned network, and their pitiful attempt at rejuvenating an already too far gone company is ridiculously sad.

Cut your losses and buy the phone and get T-Mobile. T-Mobile is fantastic with customer service, and their service is slowly improving. There are area’s where they don’t work, yeah, and they TELL you that….which has to mean something. I am glad T-Mobile is staying true with everything that they are doing. It says a good deal about the company, unlike AT&T and Sprint who keep everything secret until it’s too late to be kept a secret anymore.

Don’t forget that whatever price it is released at if sales don’t go the way they want they can always drop the price. Remember when Apple did that with the first iPhone?

Also don’t forget this is the first Android device. Anybody remember the Nokia 7650? Things will only get better from here.

Its ugly. That kills it for the non tech junky.

Would love to swap- but Tmobil’s Coverage up here in Juneau Alaska seems to be non-existant >_<. If they get an antenna or two up here I would love to switch- right now my only option for a network is AT&T or “GCI wireless” which is an AT&T subsidiary

I want this phone so bad I can taste it but I am locked into a Verizon plan until March 2010.

  • barboza

The phone is been getting negative coments since it was released – and they say it couldn’t compete with the iphone!

What would be the set price with out contract???

Whats with opensource and switching to T-Mobile? Why can’t I use Android on AT&T’s HTC Tilt if Android is open source?
