The Xperia Z Ultra phablet was first released in late June 2013, hitting various markets since then, although a Wi-Fi-only version of the device was never available to consumers. That’s about to change, at least in Japan, where buyers will be able to get Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra tablet with Wi-Fi connectivity – a device that will lack phone capabilities – starting with January 24 for 52,000 yen (or under $500). Launch details for other markets are not available at this time for the tablet.
Aside from the missing radios that would give it voice and data support on cellular networks, the Xperia Z Ultra tablet is similar with the Xperia Z Ultra phablet. Described by Sony as the world’s thinnest waterproof Full HD tablet, the device packs a 6.4-inch 1920 x 1080 display, 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, microSD support, 8.1-megapixel camera, 2.2-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board.
