Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead firmly believes that both Windows Phone and BlackBerry play a crucial role in the mobile industry. The executive noted that it is important for there to be more than just two dominant operating systems. Mead revealed during a called with investors on Wednesday that the carrier has received good engagement from handset manufacturers and he is encouraged by what he has seen thus far.
Verizon has only launched one BlackBerry 10 smartphone and offers a limited number of Windows Phone 8 devices, however Mead hinted that there are plans to launch the QWERTY-equipped BlackBerry Q10 sometime this year. Verizon is also expected to carry Nokia’s latest flagship device, the Lumia 928, which will likely be announced at press event in London next week.
“We’re hopeful it will meet the needs for our customers who have been loyal BlackBerry customers,” he said, according to CNET, adding that “three to four operating systems is good for the industry and good for us.”
Mead also reiterated Verizon’s goal of launching voice over LTE service by 2014.
