Sony (SNE) today added three new smartphones to its Xperia lineup along with its first-ever Xperia tablet. The company unveiled the Sony Xperia T, the Xperia V and the Xperia J smartphones and the Xperia Tablet S during a press event at the IFA trade show in Germany on Wednesday, showing off a broad range of devices that Sony hopes will challenge Samsung’s (005930) hugely successful Galaxy line.

From a specs perspective, the Xperia T looks to be the most impressive of the three smartphones with a 4.6-inch display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 13 megapixel camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Xperia V features many of the same specs as the T, including its 13 megapixel camera, but comes in slightly smaller with a 4.3-inch display. The Xperia J is more of a budget phone, meanwhile, with a 5 megapixel camera and a 1GHz single-core processor.

The Xperia Tablet S, meanwhile, features a 9.4-inch display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, a Tegra 3 quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera. The tablet has a September 7th release date and Sony is taking preorders for the device immediately.
