We thought Samsung’s latest 10.1-inch tablet upgrade was beyond boring and if a new report pans out, consumers seem to agree. According to unnamed sources within Samsung’s supply chain who spoke recently with Digitimes, Samsung has slashed component orders for its 10.1-inch tablets because sales have been “far below expectations.” The report suggests that Samsung’s weak full-size tablet sales have been due largely to strong competition from smaller slates. Samsung sold an estimated 17 million tablets during the first half of 2013 and according to Digitimes’ sources, and a whopping 70% of them were 7-inch devices. The report notes that Samsung’s recent price cuts on the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2, Galaxy Tab 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 haven’t really helped boost sales, hence the recent move to slash component orders. Interestingly, Samsung is still rumored to be working on a new 10.1-inch tablet as well as an even larger 12.2-inch model.
