Apple dulls reliance on Sharp for iPad mini production, taps LG and AU Optronics

While Sharp (SCHAY) may have messed up in producing next-generation iPhone screens, the company won’t be making the same mistake for the iPad mini since Bloomberg reports that Apple (AAPL) is going with LG Display (LPL) and AU Optronics to produce displays for its smaller tablet. Unnamed sources told Bloomberg that Apple was employing AUO as a mobile device supplier for the first time after relying on the manufacturer in the past for its MacBooks. As for Sharp, Bloomberg says that it “may make panels for the device in the future and will not be an initial supplier.”
