After four generations of full-size iPads that look the same barring a few minor tweaks here and there, Apple will launch a completely redesigned fifth-generation iPad this fall. We already saw photos of the next-generation iPad’s full casing leak earlier this year, and the new tablet design will be modeled after Apple’s iPad mini. Now, photos of the slate’s digitizer and screen have been published by Australian repair shop MacFixit and they support earlier reports of a new design with a much thinner bezel around the iPad’s display. The site published the following details alongside the photos:

  • The display area is the same as the iPad Retina.
  • The edges of the frame are narrower using the same style as the iPad mini.
  • The ITO (Indium tin oxide) is the same as the iPad mini.
  • There is [sic] now 2 connectors instead of 1.
  • The connectors have been changed from FFC (Flat Flexible Cable, like the iPad 2/3/4) to FPC (Flexible Printed Circuits, like the iPhone 4/5).

Apple is expected to launch its fifth-generation iPad this fall and several leaked photos of the tablet’s front panel assembly follow below.
