Google to bolster local services portfolio with Frommer’s acquisition

Google (GOOG) will acquire travel guide publisher Frommer’s from current owner John Wiley & Sons, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. The deal is expected to close soon according to the report, and Frommer’s may be folded into Google’s Zagat business. WSJ did not report the terms of the rumored acquisition. Frommer’s founder Arthur Frommer published the company’s first guidebook in 1957 and the series has expanded into a widely trusted print and online resource for travelers. According to the Frommer’s website, the company now offers information on more than 4,300 destinations around the world.
