Verus is a popular smartphone case maker based in South Korea, the very same country where Samsung is headquartered. The company has been in business for years, and it has issued images of its cases for unreleased smartphones in the past that have turned out to accurately represent the phones in question.
Now, Verus has seemingly confirmed that the Galaxy S6 renders we’ve seen recently are indeed accurate representations of the Galaxy S6 flagship phone Samsung is set to unveil in less than four weeks. Even better, it apparently just leaked images of the actual Galaxy S6 handset.
DON’T MISS: The iPhone was a ‘flop’… and look where Apple is now
We have seen a number of leaks in recent days that point to a huge design overhaul for the Galaxy S6, a handset that is hugely important for Samsung. Interestingly, however, Samsung’s new design appears to be remarkably similar to Apple’s new iPhone 6.
These leaked photos of the Galaxy S6’s aluminum chassis are damning enough, but renders based on supposed leaked schematics may be even worse.
Samsung rose to the No. 1 spot in the smartphone market thanks in large part to reshaping its mobile phone experience based on Apple’s influence. That’s putting it mildly, as illustrated by this 132-page internal document that explained exactly how Samsung’s developers should copy the iPhone.
Now, it appears as though Samsung is going back to the basics.
Images given to Phone Arena by case maker Verus appear to show a device that indeed closely resembles Apple’s iPhone 6. The blog’s unnamed contact at Verus says that these images are “renderings of how the GS6 would actually look like,” and that they use the phone’s exact dimensions.
More importantly, the person claims that the parts of the phone that are exposed in these photos are exact representations of the actual Galaxy S6, and he alludes to the fact that they’re based on details given to the company by a contact at Samsung.
Again, similar Verus leaks in the past have indeed panned out, so it’s quite possible that these are the real deal.
Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S6 during a press conference on March 1st. According to an exclusive report from BGR, the phone will feature an all glass and aluminum housing, a quad HD display, a 64-bit octa-core processor, a 20-megapixel rear camera, up to 128GB of internal storage, a brand new mobile payment system called Samsung Pay, and Android Lollipop.
A few images of the Galaxy S6 wrapped in Verus cases follow below. The first one shows the phone in a clear case, so if this leak is indeed legitimate, both the front and back of the Galaxy S6 can be seen here.
