Smart Pool Gadget Monitors for Accidental Drops and Detects Urine

Drop Smart Pool Monitor iPhone Android

Remember that report that said urine in pools is one of the factors that can lead to red-eye? It turns out there’s a company that’s already working on a smart pool monitor that can both detect human pee in the water and also issue warnings when it registers accidental drops.

Aptly called Drop, the device is currently looking to raise $100,000 on Kickstarter – with 10 days to go, the company has raised just over 25% of its goal.

Once placed in a pool, the gadget will use its sensors to continuously monitor the water, covering pH, chlorine and temperature. The device can send out notifications to an iPhone or Android app.

When guests pee in the pool, the chlorine concentration is diminished, and the pH is thrown out of balance. At that point, Drop will send out a message detailing the changes.

The special app can also be used to track and customize your pool maintenance and cleaning needs, and make sure you know what treatment you have to apply to pool water, and when it’s due.

The Drop also has a built-in accelerometer that can detect unexpected drops in the pool, and potentially save lives in the process. The app sends a notification to your phone, and you can immediately check what’s going on – it can also be useful for catching anyone who might want to take a dip in your pool while you’re not at home.

Finally, the gadget is solar-powered, meaning that you won’t ever have to worry about charging it.

The cheapest Drop costs $149 on Kickstarter, and will ship sometime next summer if the campaign is funded. Check out the video below to see how Drop works.
