While Bill Simmons not-so-subtly pushed his way out of ESPN, he’s certainly landed on his feet after signing a big new deal with HBO. Per The New York Times, HBO has announced that Simmons will get his own sports-centered talk show on HBO that will begin airing in 2016. Part of the HBO deal, which goes into effect starting in October, will also let Simmons host regular video podcasts, which were a staple of his career at ESPN.

“It’s no secret that HBO is the single best place for creative people in the entire media landscape,” Simmons said after the deal was announced. “It was hard to imagine being anywhere else.”

Although HBO is best known for its television series such as Game of ThronesTrue Detective and Silicon Valley, it’s also struck gold by pulling away popular media personalities away from other networks. Late Night With John Oliver is an absolute sensation, for example, and HBO is clearly hoping it can pull off something similar in the sports journalism world with Simmons.

The deal is described by The Associated Press as “multi-year, multi-platform,” although financial details of the deal have not yet been disclosed. Given how huge Simmons is in the sports media world, however, we imagine he’ll have more than enough money to feed his family.
