Best iPhone Camera Apps Ultrakam

The iPhone 5s already has a strong smartphone camera but one new app is pledging to make it even better. 9to5Mac points us to Ultrakam, a new iPhone camera app released this past weekend that modifies your iPhone’s camera software to let it film in resolution of 2240 x 1672 pixels at 30 frames per second.

9to5Mac points out that Ultrakam isn’t at all perfect, however, since it significantly lowers the frame rate of Apple’s default camera software from 120 frames per second at 1080p resolution. What’s more, 2K video files are very, very big: One minute of 2K video footage will take up 3GB of storage space so any dreams you have of filming your breakout masterpiece on the Sundance Film Festival on your iPhone are probably not realistic. And finally, you can only shoot 2K video at 30 frames per second if you have the iPhone 5s — if you’re using the app on an iPhone 5, then you’re stuck with a frame rate of just 2- frames per second.

Nonetheless, this looks like a terrific app for anyone who wants to make several very short high-quality films on their smartphone or anyone who just wants to post Vine and Instagram videos that are head and shoulders above the ones their friends are posting. The app is now available for $6.99 on the iTunes App Store.
