Apple announced during its press conference in Cupertino, California on Tuesday that its iPhone 3GS smartphone is now available for free on contract. The company did not not clarify whether it will continue to build new supply or if this is a limited time offer while Apple and its partners burn through remaining inventory. Apple also said that its previous-generation iPhone 4, soon to be replaced by the iPhone 4S, will drop to $99 on contract.
