Sometimes nothing can beat the original. While competing messaging services such as WhatsApp have gained millions of users, it is clear that there is still strong demand for BlackBerry Messenger. The messaging service, which was previously a BlackBerry exclusive, will launch for the iPhone and Android smartphones sometime this summer. A bogus BBM app recently surfaced on Google Play and racked up more than 100,000 downloads before being pulled, CNET reported, which proves that Android users are indeed showing a fair amount of interest in BBM. The app was fake and did little beyond installing advertising software on a device, but the demand was real. BlackBerry co-founder and former co-CEO Mike Lazaridis previously said that BBM would flourish on Android and iOS because it offers a more compelling experience than its competitors.
