Multiple reports have suggested that Samsung may be interested in selling the Galaxy S5 for a cheaper price than what’s expected for flagship devices once the smartphone hits stores on April 11th. Samsung did not announce an actual price for the handset during its recent press event or in its marketing materials. The cheap Galaxy S5 is thus just a rumor at this point, and French carrier Bouygues Telecom seems to think that the handset will be just as expensive as earlier models have been.
While the handset is not available in its stores or online, the 16GB Galaxy S5 has a listed price of €649.90. Its predecessor was similarly priced when it launched in the region. The main Bouygues Telecom competitors, including Orange and SFR have not yet listed prices for the handset. Of the two, only SFR is actually mentioning the handset on its website, although availability dates aren’t listed.
In the U.S., T-Mobile has received over 100,000 Galaxy S5 pre-registrations, although pricing details or launch dates aren’t available for the carrier.
In addition to the plastic Galaxy S5 model Samsung announced at MWC 2014, the company is also rumored to launch a Prime version in the coming months, a device that’s expected to be more expensive than the Galaxy S5.
