Negan killed a Walking Dead regular at the end of season 6 in one of the worst cliffhangers in TV history. The first episode of the upcoming season will finally reveal who Negan killed, and we already know it’s not Glenn, who dies in the comics. There are plenty of theories explaining who may have died, and you probably won’t like any of them. But it’s definitely not Glenn, and this recent interview with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman also seems to support the idea that Glenn will survive.

Speaking with Kevin Smith on AMC’s Geeking Out, Kirkman said that he’s got a planned ending for The Walking Dead comics, but that he’s not sharing it with Scott Gimple who’s making the TV show. Bleeding Cool reports that Kirkman wants the comics to continue long after the show is over, and doesn’t want the show to affect the future of the comics.

Kirkman will work with Gimple on an ending for the show, but he’ll try to feign ignorance so that none of his ideas are spoiled.

“If the show were to ever end, ever, at any point and the comic was still going, I would have to sit down with Scott and pretend I have no idea how to end it, and then work with him to try and come up with a new ending,” he said.

We already know that the show creators do not plan to follow the events in the comics closely. And it’s great to hear that Kirkman has similar ideas about the two Walking Dead products. That way, the show and comics could continue to coexist and offer fans the same overall action and characters (or types of characters) without either one spoiling the other.

Kirkman did not specifically say that Glenn doesn’t die in the TV show like in the comics, but it’s clear that he has envisioned a different type of story for the comics than Gimple has for the show. Also, given that we’ve had our Glenn moment in season 6, it would be strange to revisit it. And, in case you missed it, we already know Glenn is not going to be killed in that scene.
