Just days after Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star J.B. Smoove told Rich Eisen that David seemed to finally be mulling over the idea of bringing the show back, HBO has confirmed that season 9 is in the works.

“We’re thrilled that Larry has decided to do a new season of Curb and can’t wait to see what he has planned,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming.
When asked why he was finally returning to the world of Curb, David said: “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’” In other words, it sounds like he got bored and decided to make a new season.
Regardless of the reason, this is great news for HBO subscribers and executives alike. The last new episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm aired in 2011, and a great deal has happened at the premium cable company since then. For example, HBO Now launched, and a new season of Curb is definitely one way to get more people on board with the a la carte streaming service.
No details regarding the new season were released, but HBO says they will be “announced as they are confirmed.” Considering the fact that there are no details to share, it’s probably smart to assume the season won’t be hitting the airwaves until Q1 2017 at the earliest. But who knows? Maybe Larry and co. will have something ready before the end of the year.
