With all of the chaos surrounding the run up to this year’s election, we’re not sure how election day could possibly have snuck up on you this year. These things do happen, though… maybe you you’ve been in Antarctica studying penguins for the past year. Whatever your excuse for not having already registered to vote might be, most states in the US won’t allow you to register to vote today so you’re out of luck. The good news, however, is that there are 12 states (actually, 11 states and Washington DC) that do allow same-day voter registration, and you can take care of registering right at your designated polling location when you go to vote.

Here’s a complete list of the 11 states and one district where same-day voter registration is allowed:
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- District of Columbia
- Idaho
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Maine
- Minnesota
- Montana
- New Hampshire
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming
If you live in any of these locations and you have not yet registered to vote, it really couldn’t be easier. In other words, you have absolutely no excuse not to vote. Simply go to your designated polling location — learn where to vote right here in this post — with a government-issued ID and a secondary proof of residence such as a utility bill, a bank statement or a paycheck. You’ll be able to register to vote right there on the spot, and you can then cast your ballot for the next president of the United States.
