Have you ever finished watching a movie and thought, “that’s not how I expected that to end”? Well, every once in a while, it’s not how the director saw the movie ending either. Alternate endings are often the highlights of DVD extras, but sometimes there’s just no reason to include them. Thankfully, the endings live on through interviews and commentary tracks.

In a new Screen Rant video, we get the chance to explore a few never-before-seen alternate endings from popular movies over the last few decades.
Let’s start with a relatively well-known one: Han Solo was originally going to die while storming an Imperial base in Return of the Jedi. Harrison Ford famously lobbied for his character’s death, but George Lucas wanted a happier ending for the franchise and thus kept Solo alive. Also, toy sales may have played a part in this decision.
Jumping forward a few decades, The Hateful Eight also received some major edits during the course of its production. Tarantino nearly canceled the film altogether when the script leaked, but he changed his mind after a stage reading got a positive reaction from the audience. Apparently, the ending was overhauled before filming began.
You can hear about all of those alternate endings and more in the video below:
