Amazon Studios has an interesting new pilot that’s currently available to Prime members called The Man in the High Castle — based on the Philip K. Dick 1962 novel with the same name and produced by Ridley Scott — that imagines what the U.S. would look like following a different end to World War 2. Instead of the Allies winning the war, the Axis powers have prevailed, dividing America between them.

The action of the new proposed TV series takes place in 1962, with the U.S. consisting of the Greater Nazi Reich from the Atlantic to the Rockies, and the Japanese Pacific states from the Rockies to the Pacific.
The movie tries to envision what the U.S. would look like in the aftermath of the war, portraying a life that’s largely similar with the actual postwar 1960s in America, though various elements of the Axis inhumanity are also part of day-to-day life in The Man in the High Castle.
“Oh it’s the hospital,” a cop says in a scene, explaining snow-like ashes falling from the sky. “Tuesdays, they burn cripples, the terminally ill — drag on the state.”
