Amazon has recently increased the cost of its Amazon Prime subscription plan from $79 to $99 a year, but the service is certainly valuable to many Amazon customers, especially those people who purchase plenty of goods from the retailer. Looking to determine exactly when Amazon Prime is worthwhile to the buyer, Business Insider has put together a quick video that should help customers who aren’t really sure whether paying the Amazon Prime subscription is really worth it.

FROM EARLIER: Amazon’s Prime Now service delivers your order in one hour

The publication found that two-day shipping for one-item packages ranges from $8 to $14.50, so buyers must order at least 10 two-day items per year to make Amazon Prime pay for itself.

Additionally, you get back your membership fee if you order at least 20 small items under $35 each during the year, and choose standard shipping rather than two-day shipping.

Amazon Prime streaming is comparable to Netflix’s $7.99 monthly subscription, so that’s a $96 value per year for customers who use the service constantly.

The value of the Kindle Lending Library perk is about $60, which means users can borrow some 12 books a year, which could be purchased for $5 each.

Business Insider’s video doesn’t mention other Amazon Prime perks, including Prime Music and unlimited photo storage on Amazon Cloud Drive.

The site concludes that Amazon Prime is worth using even at $99, as long as a users take advantage of a combination of the services above.
