From the first alpha all the way up to its most recent update, Minecraft has never stopped growing. To this very day, Mojang is still consistently improving upon and adding to what has become one of the biggest games of the decade, but people still want to know what’s next. We finally have an answer… sort of.
FROM EARLIER: Microsoft now officially owns Minecraft
Telltale Games announced on Thursday that it had partnered with Mojang to create an episodic series based around the Minecraft franchise called Minecraft: Story Mode. It will be an original story set within the world of Minecraft, but Mojang wants to assure fans that this is not meant to be canon. It’s just an adventure in their world.
Telltale and Mojang also say that they will be collaborating with community as they create the game, but have yet to share any details on what exactly this will entail.
Over the past few years, Telltale has had a hand in some of the biggest properties in popular culture, from The Walking Dead to Game of Thrones. The team also worked with another game developer recently to create Tales from the Borderlands. The company has a proven track record, but it will still be interesting to see how Telltale tackles the challenge of building a story around an open-ended game like Minecraft.
Minecraft: Story Mode will debut in 2015 on PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices.
