Microsoft on its Lumia Twitter account confirmed that all current Windows Phone 8 devices, including Nokia Lumia and Microsoft Lumia will be upgraded to Windows 10 in the future.
FROM EARLIER: Windows Phone has been a huge disappointment this year – but Microsoft isn’t worried yet
“We plan to upgrade all Windows Phone 8 devices to Windows 10 in the future,” the company said in a tweet, answering to a question whether a current Nokia Lumia model will receive Windows 10 when it launches next year.
The company seems to imply that other Windows Phone devices that already run Windows Phone 8 will be upgraded to Windows 10, not just Lumia-branded smartphones from Nokia and/or Microsoft.
On the other hand, Microsoft also made Lumia-specific comments on Twitter regarding future updates.
“There will be Windows 10 upgrades for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices :) And we will release new Windows 10 models in the future!” the company said a few days ago.
Even so, the company did not reveal any actual launch details for the Windows 10 update for smartphones at this time. However, it’s worth noting that Microsoft kept referring at the future mobile operating system as Windows 10 rather than Windows Phone 10.
Also important is the fact that Microsoft seems to be very interested in assuring buyers their existing devices will get future versions for Windows. Before making the jump to Windows Phone 8, Microsoft disappointed many Windows Phone 7 users by leaving them behind on the older OS version.
