Halo: The Master Chief Collection

, the most anticipated Xbox One exclusive of the month will hit store shelves on Tuesday. With four full campaigns, over 100 multiplayer maps and the debut of Halo 2: Anniversary, it’s going to be hard to find more value in a game this holiday season, but the best part of the whole package won’t be available at launch.

On December 29th, Microsoft and 343 Industries are going to give everyone who buys a copy of The Master Chief Collection access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta. It’s going to be a long wait for anxious Halo fans, but over the weekend, a grainy clip of Halo 5 multiplayer appeared online. The video was only a few seconds long, but it was enough to throw the Internet into a tizzy.

It appeared that the player in the video was aiming down the sights of the gun, something that has been popularized by many other recent FPS games (most notably Call of Duty), but wasn’t an option with Halo’s weaponry. The player also starts sprinting in the video, another feature that Halo has avoided in past entries.

Halo fans were disappointed that 343 Industries seemed to have caved to the pressure of an evolving FPS landscape, but the developer’s own Josh Holmes immediately took to Twitter to straighten things out.

We’ll have a chance to see what Halo 5 multiplayer really looks like during the HaloFest stream tonight.
