Why are Apple’s hardware designs so gorgeous? The answer might be simpler than you think: Because Apple pays for them. BusinessVibes has put together a chart based on data provided by Glassdoor that lists all the top salaries for different kinds of Apple employees and you won’t be surprised to know that the company puts a premium on hardware designers.

NOT EVERY APPLE DESIGN IS GORGEOUS: These are the ugliest things Apple has ever made, hands down

The top-paying job at Apple is industrial designer, which pulls in just north of $167,000 per year while the second-highest paying job is senior hardware engineer, which nets a little less than $138,000 per year. Other hardware jobs that make more than $100,000 per year include product design engineer, mechanical engineer and hardware engineer. In total, five of the top seven best-paying jobs at Apple have to do with hardware design and engineering.

What’s more, senior software engineers make slightly less money than senior hardware engineers while regular software engineers make a little less than regular hardware engineers. All told, it looks like Apple is paying top dollar for its hardware and industrial design specialists and it certainly shows in the final products when they get released.
