Samsung first made a splash when it mocked the “iSheep” who stand in long lines around Apple stores waiting to get the newest version of the iPhone. However, it looks like the launch of the Galaxy S5 has produced some long lines of its own and you can bet that Samsung won’t be making fun of them in future commercials.
SamMobile has posted a couple of pictures on Twitter showing long lines for the Galaxy S5 outside a store in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. There’s no way of telling whether these lines match the ones that accompany an iPhone launch in the Netherlands, mostly because we don’t have a European equivalent of Gene Munster to stand outside and count them, but they’re still impressive.
Meanwhile, The Straits Times has also found some lines for the Galaxy S5 in its home country of Singapore, where it reports “hundreds” of people stood outside various locations to be the first to get their hands on Samsung’s new flagship phone.
Elsewhere, however, things aren’t looking so good. One picture uploaded from the Australian city of Melbourne showed practically no line for the Galaxy S5 while The Wall Street Journal’s Jonathan Cheng notes a similar lack of activity in Samsung’s home country of Korea.
It’s safe to say that the Galaxy S5 launch isn’t quite generating iPhone levels of excitement but at the same time Samsung can’t be upset that people are lining up for its new device in some parts of the world at the very least.
