The OnePlus One Android phone may just be one of the most interesting handsets of the year, at least for hardcore Android users, but there’s actually nothing official about this vaporware device yet. The company has been marketing a concept as a well-built flagship handset that’s supposed to have an affordable price, but specific details about it aren’t available yet. The only thing sure about the device is that it will run CyanogenMod, a popular custom Android OS version.
Not even the price is set in stone. But then a few days ago, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said the smartphone will sell for less than $500, although what he apparently meant is under $400. “Priced under $500 doesn’t mean $499. The OnePlus One will definitely be available for under $400,” Lau said on Google Plus on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the company revealed on its forums that the OnePlus One has reached the “feature freeze” stage, with the first prototype being currently tested. “Many of you have recently expressed a desire to know more about the OnePlus One development cycle. We are glad to announce that the OnePlus One finally reached the stage of feature freeze,” the company wrote. “The first prototype A0001 arrived yesterday at the office and we are currently testing it. Although there are still a lot of improvements to be made until the final product, we’re still loving it!”
However, no actual details about the phone’s specs have been shared, and images showing the handset aren’t available. The other day, well-known leaker @evleaks posted the following image on Twitter, which is showing the purported retail packaging of the OnePlus One, but, unfortunately, the phone is not in the box.
