Nokia’s bet on Windows Phone may finally be paying off. The Wall Street Journal reports that Nokia sold more than 8 million Lumia devices during the third quarter this year, more than double the number it sold over the same quarter in 2012 and more than its previous record of 7.4 million sold in the second quarter of 2013. Nokia has been the only manufacturer to devote significant resources to making Windows Phone devices and one firm estimates that Nokia devices account for 88% of all Windows Phones in use. Although it’s had trouble cracking the high-end smartphone market dominated by Apple and Samsung, Nokia has done very well in selling low and mid-tier devices such as the Lumia 520 in emerging markets.
