I wasn’t the greatest fan of the first two Dan Brown movies. Maybe there was too much expectation around the movie version of a blockbuster book, all featuring Tom Hanks, but it didn’t really pan out.

Years after The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons came out, Professor Langdon is back, and this time, things are getting real.

DON’T MISS: You’re about to start paying more for Netflix

The first official trailer gives away a lot for the plot of Inferno, so if you don’t like plot spoilers, I suggest you nope out of this tab right now.

The trailer opens with a man falling to his death from a clock tower somewhere in Italy, ostensibly to protect some secret that is much bigger than just his life. This starts the mystery for Langdon, who digs through old images (and Dante’s circles of hell) to uncover a conspiracy to infect the world with a plague.

From there, it looks like things normally go in movies where the heroes are racing against the clock to save humanity. There’s just one extra wrinkle: this time, Langdon’s brain is being messed with, so the professor can’t even trust himself.

All in all, the stage is set for one hell of a movie. Ron Howard, the director of the first two Dan Brown movies, is back in charge of this installment, so nothing’s really changed except the plot. The movie is set to open worldwide on October 14th, which is just far enough away to go re-read the book five more times.
