Are you a Starbucks fiend who can’t start your day without one of its delicious caffeine-infused drinks? Well if you’re really dedicated, you can get a free drink from Starbucks every day of the year as long as you’re an unethical jerk who is willing to own 365 different Starbucks cards and lie about your birthday on 364 of them.
Kitchenette this week asked its readers who work in the food service industry to talk about some of the world customers they’ve experienced. Starbucks employee Brad Halsey chimed in to tell the story of a man who comes into his Starbucks every day with a different Starbucks card that just happens to be registered to someone who has today’s date as their birthday. This means he can go into a Starbucks every day and request a “free birthday drink” every day of the year.
“Even though I know exactly how he ‘beat the system’ there, he pretends that his app is just malfunctioning and it magically gives him the same free birthday drink every day,” Halsey explains. “If he was a nice guy, I might not be so irritated. But he’s not a nice guy.”
And why is he “not a nice guy,” you ask? In part because he takes a Starbucks cup and a marker every day and “draws lines and arrows and writes all over the cup while telling me: ‘Two pumps of white mocha here, then add five pumps of vanilla. That should take us to this line here where you’re gonna add cold heavy cream up to this ridge here…it should be halfway between this line and this line. Make sure to add the heavy whipping cream before the espresso, it changes the taste if you do it out of order. Then add your four shots, three regular and one long shot.'”
It keeps going from there but if you want to read the whole long, painful list of instructions, check out Kitchenette’s full post here.
(And for the record, we don’t recommend doing what this truly obnoxious Starbucks customer did to get free drinks. Have a tiny sense of decency, people.)
