Last year’s Galaxy S5 wasn’t the big, innovative update we wanted to see from Samsung in 2014, but it definitely still had some great features. It was also still purchased by tens of millions of people around the world, and plenty of people were undoubtedly happy with the sleek handset. In 2015 however, we want more. Much more. We don’t just want another minor iterative update, we want a bold new phone that gives smartphone enthusiasts a reason to get excited again.

At the same time, however, we also want the Galaxy S6 to hang on to the best things about the Galaxy S5 — but now it looks like at least one of the Galaxy S5’s best features will be nowhere to be found in this year’s flagship phone.

Beyond the cutting-edge components and gorgeous high-resolution display on the Galaxy S5, Samsung’s 2014 flagship phone had one feature in particular that users really appreciated — mainly because it likely saved them tons of money on repairs and replacement phones. That’s right, the Galaxy S5 is waterproof.

And yes, it has been tested extensively.

Sadly, a new report from Korean news site Digital Daily states that Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S6 will not be waterproof like its predecessor. Instead, there will be a separate version of the phone that will be waterproof, as was the case in 2013 with the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Active.

Unfortunately, the “Active” variants of Samsung’s phones are typically less attractive and are never as widely available as its main Galaxy S phones.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, of course, and Samsung is expected to release the new Galaxy S6 sometime in March.
