Paul Allen has purchased a lot of things since leaving Microsoft…several sports teams, stadiums, and a large chunk of downtown Seattle are but a few of the software pioneer’s acquisitions. We’re nonetheless a bit shocked to catch wind of the billionaire’s most recent target. It seems that Mr. Allen will be making a bid for the 700MHz wireless spectrum. His company, Vulcan Inc., has applied to bid on the spectrum beginning in January. The 700MHz auction is shaping up to be quite the race, with companies including Google, AT&T, Verizon, Vodafone, and Qualcomm all throwing theirs hats into the ring. It’s not clear exactly what Allen or Vulcan Inc intend to do with the spectrum if they do, in fact, win the auction.
