JetBlue has signed a deal with Google to provide real-time flight tracking based on the Google Maps infrastructure and interface. Passengers will soon be able to track the progress of their flight by way of the seat back entertainment systems. The personalized LCD screens will provide flyers with information including location, speed, direction, and estimated time of arrival all within the familiar Google Maps layout. Friends and family members of passengers will also have access to specific flight information. For what we can only guess to be security concerns the information will not be available to the general public. This should prove to be a convenient, and aesthetically pleasing way to track flight status and arrival times.
