Upcoming MacBook Airs to use 400Mbps flash storage?

Computers

Japanese blog Macotakara.jp is reporting from parts makers in Asia that Apple’s upcoming MacBook Air refresh, expected in the next two weeks, will use super-speedy 400Mbps NAND flash storage chips. In addition to being incredibly fast — even faster that the current MacBook Air solution, which uses an mSATA connector to connect the SSD to the motherboard — these new NAND flash storage chips would be soldered directly to the motherboard, bypassing any connector. If true, this new change would result in 100-times performance increase over the current solution, and coupled with a rumored bump to i5 / i7 processors, the new MacBook Airs should absolutely fly.

awesome.  i hope they increase the storage capacity of the 11″ model.  i may finally be jumping back to a mac after years on pcs.

400 MB/s, not 400 Mbps (which would be terribly slow for an SSD). Shame on you BGR!

Lol if some analyst reports apple coming up with something called an iDick, i guarantee you jonathan would already start dreaming taking it up in the ass

Thats so right… You, i and the rest of the Goofan (aka Apple Hater) nation just swallow the google goo! Much better than taking the idick up the ass. Right?

When did being gay go back to being an insult? Is it 1985 again?

Do you realize that 400mbps is 50MB/s? That’s a joke. Notice how their
post says MBps? That’s a difference of literally 8x so instead of 50MB/s
    its 400MB/s.

the current unit already uses direct soldered chips rather than an ssd enclosure like the first gen. that part of your description is inaccurate

    • Falsereality

No. The current drive is an enclosure-less SSD stick. They’re talking soldered directly to the board, like the RAM.

    back-lit keyboard is the decider

That’s slow compared to Google computers.

AKA everpriced 200$ netbook with free browser ?

  • Blowmebgr

Should absolutely fly? A little breathless aren’t we? .

  • IamEzio

    400MBps not 400Mbps !

  • Ruusbfknjdljghb

these chips would only be twice the speed of the previous gen macbook airs chips which are around 200MB/s not 100 times faster as stated above. you are thinking of CAM chips

    • Tbrigham

Yep i was wondering the same thing. Was the last mbair only 4MB/s? That would be a 100x increase

iFans are thinking/dreaming of way too many things.
Either way the way I got is is that bypassing the sata connector yields 100x the speed.

Typical [insert apple fan club here] BS.

with a huge storage can help user have more space to do thier activity especially for users who need a lot of data

They’re also going to cook.  Even if they use low voltage chipsets, these things are going to run extremely hot.  If they don’t make the switch to the rumored composite housing, the iCult will have to keep frying its’ collective junk.  There is simply no good way to cool large multithread processors that fits inside half a manilla envelope.

would you all recommend this new mac book air or the mac book pro?
in terms of speed/memory space, other functions? i need some advice. thanks!
