Apple inadvertently reveals 17-inch iMac?

An Apple educational newsletter for March 2009 apparently offers a 17-inch iMac starting at $899 as part of the company’s new iMac Line. Currently, iMacs are only available in 20 inch and 24 inch sizes and the re-introduction of a 17″ model leaves us scratching our heads. Once upon a time, there was a 17″ white iMac, available to educational institutions for $899, that was phased out when Apple overhauled its iMac line in 2007. Is this a new aluminum 17″ iMac that hits the low price point that educational institutions can afford or is it just a three year old advertisement that was inadvertently recycled with new pics?

UPDATE: Couple commenters and other people wrote in… this seems to simply be the older 17″ aluminum iMacs that are discounted for educational institutions.

    When Apple introduced the new aluminum iMacs, they continued to offer the entry level 17″ white iMac to educational institutions. If you enter the education store and “shop for your school” (as opposed to “shop for yourself”), you can find it there today for $899.

    Hm- this would likely have negative effects on Mac mini sales, one would think.

    My guess is that Apple is doing a rush job to captialize on all this stimulus money the schools are getting. Basically the states get 3 months to spend billions in education or they lose it. Come out with a cheap affordable Mac ASAP and you got a winner.

    Headline is being a little too sensational. Nothing inadvertent about it. it has been there for educational institutions to purchase ever since introducing the Aluminum iMacs. So it has been there for several years. Nothing new here. Not something recent.

    There is no 17inch iMac that I could find on the education store, and they never had an Aluminum 17inch.

    There was never a 17″ Alum iMac, there was a 17″ PPC iMac, but NEVER a Aluminum one, you guys need to re-update that update.

    Macs.. Maybe when the value for your dollar actually goes to something a little more reasonable, I might actually get a mac. In the meantime, you’re all just like a bunch of high school students getting the latest in Abercrombie or Gucci just because of the name. I LOL everytime I think about apple fanatics
