The Next BlackBerry Browser

News

It seems that in all of the recent iPhone this and iPhone that hype, this hit the news circuits a bit under the radar. It would appear from the linked article that tabbed browsing is the major feature enhancement coming to the next built-in BlackBerry browser, along with a new ‘home screen’. Although Research In Motion still hasn’t quite joined the ‘cool kids’ and introduced vector-based HTML rendering, they are at least making efforts to improve on what’s already known as the browser we love to hate.

What happened to the integration of SlipStream? Last year, several folks at RIM claimed that this new technology would be rolled in to the native BB browser and yeild a 4x to 20x improvement in speed. It’s been at year (http://www.computerwire.com/industries/research/?pid=DCD590D8-A388-4C0A-BBB9-5EB8DA67C0DF) and hopefully the aquisition is complete. This release doesn’t say much about speed improvements – anyone know more?

I think their browser is good, it could use some major work, and it gets you what you need. If you want more we will have to wait for more information on future builds but hey improvements come slowly sometimes.

I’ve already switched to Opera Mini. They are gonna have to do as good as that and then some, to get me to switch back. The blackberry browser sucks, and tabbed browsing ain’t gonna save it.

Great I really can’t wait. For pda phones I think that blackberry is in the lead. And even with this iphone comming out blackberry is still getting better. I doubt the iphone will ever be a blackberry killer.
