Samsung is desperately looking to limit the number of leaks that concern its upcoming mobile devices, but they keep coming in. The latest report out of Asia says the Galaxy S8 might be the first smartphone in the world to ship with 8GB of RAM.

A few smartphone makers launched devices sporting 6GB of RAM this year, but Samsung wasn’t one of them. The Korean giant was rumored to make a special Galaxy Note 7 version for China, sporting 6GB of RAM, but that didn’t happen.

Now, a person familiar with Samsung’s plans who shared similar details in the past has taken to Weibo to say that the Galaxy S8 will feature a 10nm processor, 8GB of RAM, and UFS 2.1 flash memory.

We already knew that Samsung’s 2017 flagship phone would have 10nm chips inside, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 and a new Exynos chip.

But this is the first time we hear the phone could have 8GB of memory. That would be an impressive feat for a phone, but let’s hope it won’t affect its battery life.

UFS 2.1 flash memory should also be an exciting feature, but it’s unclear at this time whether the Galaxy S8 will have faster read and write speeds compared to the Galaxy S7.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 in two distinct flavors next year, including a regular and “Plus” phablet version. The announcement may come as early as late February in Barcelona, Spain, or in April in New York.
