Everything you need to know to track this weekend’s winter storm

If you’re in the Northeastern United States, you’re likely aware that the first massive snow storm of the winter season is currently bearing down on your city. According to the latest forecasts, the storm is expected to hit some areas late tonight and last through Saturday night into Sunday, so you’re going to want to keep track of the storm all weekend long.

Thankfully, in times like these, the Internet is your friend.

Earlier this morning, Lifehacker put together a list of all the best sources for weather information so that you can keep yourself as informed as possible throughout this potentially life-threatening weekend.

The first thing you need to do is check the National Weather Service to see if your city falls in the path of the storm. (Hint: If it’s anywhere from Arkansas to New York, you’re probably getting at least some adverse weather.) Once you find your region, click it on the map to zoom in and see more specific forecasts for your area.

Now that you know whether or not you need to start preparing for extreme weather, you start figuring out which weather sites to bookmark. Lifehacker’s personal favorites can be found below:
