Xerox, everyone’s favorite copy machine manufacturer, has entered the search game in a rather major way. The company has just announced Fact Spotter, which is a document search service. The software combs through meta data, indexing information regardless of language, location, document type, or format. Xerox is hailing this as one of the first “contextual” search devices, giving you results that are not only based on individual documents, but also their relationship to other similar items. What exactly does this mean? To be perfectly honest, we’re not quite sure, but Xerox certainly seems to think that they’re on to something, so we’ll have to wait and see. The software is scheduled to be released as part of their Litigation Service suite of legal software, with no plans to unleash the beast on the general public. Come on….pretty please?
