Every year, employee surveys confirm that Google is one of, if not the, best places to work in the United States. The reasons for this are manifold: Google obsessively monitors its employees to make sure they’re happy and offers a ridiculous amount of perks to make working at the company as fun as work can possibly be. But that’s not all — Business Insider flags an essay written by a Google employee on Quora that explains why working at the company is even better than what we previously thought.

In his essay, Google software engineer Edgar Duenez-Guzman says that aside from the great perks, Google also allows him more freedom to pursue his interests than he ever imagined.

“Google gives me amazing freedom to do what I think is important,” he explains. “But better yet, one would think that such freedom would cause chaos… Yet Google surprised me even more… If somebody thinks what I am doing should not be done, they can see it and raise an issue immediately.”

There are some downsides to working at Google, of course, but Duenez-Guzman explains that they’re vastly outweighed by the benefits.
