Apple released a new version of iTunes today, seemingly aimed at bug fixes and Apple TV 2.0 compatibility issues for the most part. To coincide with the availability of iTunes 7.6.1 however, Apple has also introduced a new ongoing promo that is sure to generate some additional interest in its movie rental service. Starting today and then continuing every Thursday hereafter, iTunes will make one title available for rent at the discounted 99¢ price point. The title will be available for download until the following Monday, and the same 30-day viewing window applies. Apple has chosen The Hours to launch the new promo, which may indicate that the promo selection won’t exactly be fresh. 99¢ rentals are also limited to standard definition for the time being. If you’ve been hesitant to check out the iTunes rental service but skeptical, a rental for a buck is probably just what the doctor ordered to get you to check it out.
