Welcome to the American wireless industry, Marcelo Claure — hope you don’t mind being ridiculed nonstop by one of your top rivals. Hours after Claure was officially announced as Sprint’s new CEO, T-Mobile CEO John Legere decided to greet him using the same tactics that he’s used to become close friends with Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam and AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson. In other words, Legere decided to ruthlessly troll him on Twitter.
“Looks like Sprint has a new framily member… and he’s got a lot of framily therapy to do, ASAP,” wrote Legere, who has repeatedly ridiculed Sprint’s admittedly awful “Framily” plan campaign. “You could wait to find out what the framily is going to do, or you could go with what works — T-Mobile…Join T-Mobile now and jump off the Sprint bus before it crashes!”
You might call Legere childish for taunting a rival executive during his very first day on the job… and you’d be right. That said, Legere has never exactly pretended to dignified — it seems that it takes an Unprofessional CEO to run the “Uncarrier.” And let’s be honest: Legere’s shameless antics are at the very least amusing most of the time. And given all of the different telecom executives we’ve covered over the years, we’re shocked to find one who not only doesn’t put us to sleep after talking for five minutes but is actually mildly entertaining.
