One of the most popular music streaming services in the world just hit another major milestone. Spotify announced on its blog on Wednesday that it now has over 10 million paying subscribers and 40 million active users across the 56 markets in which the service is available. Last March, the company reported that it had 6 million subscribers, which means that the latest data shows a 66% increase in paying users in just over a year.

“We’ve had an amazing year, growing from 20 markets to 56 as people from around the world embrace streaming music. 10 million subscribers is an important milestone for both Spotify and the entire music industry,” said CEO Daniel Ek. “We’re widening our lead in the digital music space and will continue to focus on getting everyone in the world to listen to more music.”

The news concerning Apple’s acquisition of Beats has dominated the headlines, but Spotify has been quietly chugging along without making much of a stir. In fact, the only real coverage Spotify has seen in the past month came shortly after a welcome interface overhaul, simplifying music management and making the mobile and desktop apps much easier on the eyes.

Spotify put together a stylish infographic to celebrate its rapidly growing user base as well:
