Struggling smartphone maker Research In Motion is reportedly considering a sale of its hardware business as the company continues to explore options that might help it recover. Following news that another round of layoffs has already begun at the Waterloo, Ontario-based company, Reuters cites The Sunday Times in reporting that RIM is now considering an outright sale of its BlackBerry hardware business. Among the companies identified as potential buyers are Facebook and Amazon, though it is unclear if RIM is actively negotiating with either of the companies. The Sunday Times, which did not cite any sources in its report, also claims that RIM is considering selling a stake to a larger company such as Microsoft, thus allowing it to keep its hardware and software businesses together.
