redsn0w almost a go; Dev Team demos iPod Touch 2G jailbreak

Published Jan 18th, 2009 11:02AM EST

So let it be written, so let it be done. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team took a few minutes out of his busy day of freeing Apple products to demo some iPod Touch 2G jailbreak goodness via Qik. For those who missed it, the video is above and a quick follow up video answering some more common questions has been posted as well. In a nutshell, the 2G jailbreak circumvents the Apple-introduced antijailbreak function where the iTouch would stop booting if it detected a jailbreak present. Apple should know better of course, and it was only a matter of time before the Dev Team found a hole. As of right now redsn0w isn’t yet ready for prime time but don’t expect the wait to be all too long – nothing seems to take very long with our favorite iPwners behind the wheel.
