Netflix is unquestionably a game-changer. Over the past few years, the service has grown to become a cord cutter’s dream, offering a massive library of movies and TV shows at a very affordable price.

Netflix announced on Wednesday that a new update to its popular app for smart TVs is currently in the process of rolling out. According to the company, it’s the first major update to its TV app since late 2013.
There’s no telling how long it will take to reach your HDTV, but we have all the details on what you can expect to enjoy once you finally get the new app.
First, and perhaps most notably, the interface will enjoy some pretty big changes. Front and center is the fact that playback will actually begin or resume in the background when you click on a movie or show.
“Now when you select a title, it will start or resume playing while displaying key information to help you confirm your choice,” Netflix’s Joubert Nel wrote in a post on the company’s blog. “We’re letting the content speak for itself by providing a more immersive and cinematic experience that best represents the capabilities and expectations of today’s TVs.”

Pretty cool, right?
There are also some performance improvements that should result in an all-around better viewing experience. Netflix says the update should roll out to “eligible devices” in the coming days.
