Today marks a huge step towards the official release of the N-Gage successor. Of course the revival of N-Gage is platform-based as opposed to the N-Gage handsets of old, and it will eventually be available on a variety of S60 devices. For the time being however, Nokia has chosen to invite N81 owners to the party a bit earlier than the rest of us. The pre-release version of N-Gage is available for download immediately and there are several game titles on the shelf as well. N-Gage users can trial games prior to purchasing them and plenty of great developers have already jumped on board. Popular titles already listed on the site and available soon include FIFA 08, Asphalt 3, World Series of Poker and Midnight Pool 3D. While many may be annoyed by the fact that Nokia’s pre-release is only available on the N81, this actually isn’t such a bad move. To say that the N81 has seen lackluster sales might be overstating its case, and better to put the app in the hands of a small control group before fully unleashing it. Is it a beta with a fancy “First Access” hat, or homage paid to the few unique souls who snagged an N81? Either way, it doesn’t matter; hit the link to see that there’s a pretty easy “hack” to get N-Gage to work on any device.
